Overview

Being part of a community is about more than attending activities. It is about building friendships, developing confidence, discovering new interests and feeling a genuine sense of belonging.

At MCCSC, we believe every person deserves opportunities to participate in community life, pursue their goals and connect with others in meaningful ways. Our Community Participation Program helps individuals build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen social connections and actively engage in the communities around them.

Whether you want to meet new people, learn new skills, explore your interests or become more independent, we are here to support your journey.

A strong community is not built by the places we go. It is built by the connections we create.

Why community participation matters

Feeling connected to others plays an important role in wellbeing, confidence and quality of life. Community participation creates opportunities to:

  • Build meaningful friendships
  • Increase confidence and independence
  • Develop new skills and interests
  • Strengthen communication and social skills
  • Reduce social isolation
  • Improve wellbeing and self-esteem
  • Explore education, volunteering and employment opportunities
  • Become an active member of the community

At MCCSC, we focus on creating opportunities that help people participate, contribute and thrive.

Building confidence through participation

Everyone's interests, goals and abilities are different. That's why we work alongside participants to identify activities, experiences and opportunities that align with their individual aspirations. Support may include:

Social connections

Building friendships, joining community groups and creating meaningful relationships.

Skill development

Developing communication, confidence, independence and everyday life skills.

Community engagement

Participating in local events, cultural activities, recreational programs and community initiatives.

Personal growth

Exploring new interests, hobbies and experiences that encourage learning and self-development.

Volunteering & leadership

Supporting participants to contribute to their communities, share their strengths and develop leadership skills.

Education & employment pathways

Connecting participants with opportunities that support learning, career development and future goals.

More than activities — creating opportunities

Community participation is not simply about filling time. It is about helping people discover what matters to them and supporting them to build a life that is connected, meaningful and fulfilling. Whether it is joining a community event, developing a new skill, participating in cultural activities, building friendships or exploring future opportunities, every experience contributes to greater confidence and independence.

We focus on creating opportunities that encourage participants to connect with others, learn and grow, build resilience, increase independence, participate with confidence and contribute to their communities.

Working with trusted partners

MCCSC collaborates with community organisations, local groups and trusted NDIS partners to create inclusive opportunities for participation and social connection. Through these partnerships, participants can access a range of programs, activities and supports designed to promote inclusion, independence and community engagement. Our role is to help individuals identify opportunities that align with their goals and connect them with the right supports to achieve meaningful outcomes.

How this works: MCCSC connects participants to programs and activities offered through community organisations and trusted NDIS partners. We help you find opportunities that suit your goals and support you to get involved — many activities are delivered with our partner organisations.

Supporting multicultural communities

We recognise that culture, identity and community play an important role in a person's sense of belonging. MCCSC provides culturally responsive and inclusive support that respects individual backgrounds, experiences and aspirations. We are committed to creating welcoming environments where people from all cultures and abilities feel valued, respected and connected.

Building communities where everyone belongs

At MCCSC, we believe communities are strongest when everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute and be included. By supporting individuals to build connections, develop confidence and engage with the world around them, we help create stronger families, stronger communities and brighter futures.

Because participation is not just about being present. It's about belonging.

Who this is for

Anyone who wants support to take part in social and community life, build confidence and independence — including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and those accessing NDIS supports.

Our approach

Inclusive, culturally responsive and centred on your interests, goals and sense of belonging.
