Multilingual Support
No one should be turned away by language
Overview
For too many people, a language barrier becomes a barrier to everything — to healthcare, to housing, to employment, to feeling understood. A person can carry decades of skill and wisdom, yet be treated as helpless simply because they cannot yet express themselves in English.
At MCCSC, we work to make sure that never has to be the case. Our multilingual support helps people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds communicate, understand and access the services and opportunities they are entitled to — with dignity and confidence.
Language should open doors, not close them.
How we help
- Support from staff and volunteers who speak community languages
- Coordinating professional interpreters where needed
- Help understanding letters, forms and official documents
- Assistance completing applications and paperwork
- Culturally aware communication that respects context, not just words
- Connecting people to translated information and resources
More than translation
Real communication is about more than swapping one language for another. It is about understanding what matters to a person, the cultural context behind their words, and what they are truly trying to achieve. Our approach honours both language and culture, so people feel genuinely heard — not just processed.
Why it matters
When people can understand and be understood, they can advocate for themselves, make informed decisions and participate fully in community life. Removing the language barrier is often the first and most powerful step towards belonging.
