Family & Carer Support

Supporting the people who give so much of themselves

“The strength of a community is measured not only by how it supports those in need, but also by how it supports those who care for them.”

Overview

Behind every person receiving care is someone quietly giving their time, energy, patience and love — a parent caring for a child with additional needs, a daughter supporting an ageing parent, a husband caring for his wife, a friend helping someone through illness or recovery. While carers dedicate themselves to supporting others, they often place their own wellbeing last.

At MCCSC, we recognise the invaluable role carers play in our families and communities. Our Family & Carer Support Program exists to ensure carers feel seen, supported, connected and valued throughout their caring journey.

You spend so much time caring for others. Sometimes, you need someone to care for you too.

Caring can be rewarding — but it can also be challenging

Being a carer is one of life's most important responsibilities, but it can also bring emotional, physical and social challenges. Many carers experience:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Social isolation
  • Difficulty balancing work, family and caring responsibilities
  • Uncertainty about available support services
  • Emotional fatigue and reduced wellbeing
  • Challenges navigating complex systems and services

You are not alone.

MCCSC provides a welcoming and supportive environment where carers can access information, connect with others and find the support they need.

How we support carers

Connection & community

Sometimes the most valuable support comes from talking with someone who understands. We create opportunities for carers to connect, share experiences, build friendships and develop supportive networks within the community.

Information & guidance

Navigating support services can often feel overwhelming. We help carers access practical information and connect with services, resources and community supports that can make their caring journey easier.

Wellbeing & self-care

Looking after your own wellbeing is not a luxury — it is essential. Our programs encourage carers to prioritise self-care, build resilience and maintain their physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

Workshops & learning opportunities

We offer information sessions, wellbeing activities and educational workshops that help carers build confidence, access resources and strengthen their capacity to support loved ones while also caring for themselves.

Supporting multicultural families

Every caring journey is unique. For carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, additional challenges may arise when navigating services, understanding systems or accessing support. MCCSC provides culturally responsive and inclusive support that respects the important role family, culture and community play in caregiving. We believe every carer deserves access to information, support and opportunities regardless of their background.

Strong carers build strong families

When carers are supported, families become stronger. When families are stronger, communities become more connected, resilient and inclusive. Our goal is not only to support carers in their day-to-day responsibilities, but to help them maintain their wellbeing, confidence and quality of life for the long term.

Because caring should never mean carrying the burden alone.

Who this is for

Anyone caring for an ageing parent, a family member living with disability, someone experiencing illness, or a loved one who needs extra support — including carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Our approach

Compassionate, culturally responsive and centred on the carer's own wellbeing — because strong carers build strong families.
